Apple is going to rename and simplify the application with books and iBooks

Apple is going to significantly update the iBooks reader. According to Bloomberg, the company will release a new iOS app called Books. It will have an interface like the App Store in iOS 11, the tab “I’m reading now” and a separate section with audiobooks. There is no official release date for the program, but it will most likely take place in the coming months.

The application is still being tested, but the details about it are quite small. According to the description of Bloomberg, it has a “simplified interface” with an emphasis on the books that the user is reading at the moment. Books has a digital book store, which is very similar in design to Apple’s new mobile app store. This may mean that the company wants to simplify the process of finding new books – perhaps in the application there will appear tabs with different categories and book covers.

Recently, the Cupertino giant has transferred audiobooks from the Music application to iBooks, but if there is a separate tab for them, it will be even more convenient to find and buy them. In addition, it is reported that Apple has hired the top Audible top manager – a platform with audiobooks, which owns Amazon.

iBooks remains one of the few Apple programs that have not been significantly updated for a long time. In part, this is probably due to a lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice related to the prices of e-books in the company’s store. Apple was then fined $ 450 million for colluding with major publishers and overstating prices.

Apparently, in this way Apple wants to challenge Amazon – the leader in the market of electronic books. Similar plans, it seems, have Google, which recently added a full section to Google Play with audiobooks.
