Fortnite for Android will bypass Google Play

Owners of Android-devices for several months are waiting for the release on its platform megapopular multiplayer shooter Fortnite. However, many can banally skip the release of the game. The point is that the publisher will not offer it through the official Google Play app store. Details shared the head of the company Epic Games Tom Sweeney.

During a conversation with Eurogamer journalists, Tom Sweeney officially confirmed rumors that owners of Android-powered devices will have to download the APK file from Epic’s site and then install the game on their own. According to the head of Epic Games, this is done for several reasons. First, they believe that users will only benefit from the competition of software sources.

“Epic’s goal is to bring its games directly to customers. We believe that gamers will benefit from competition among software sources on Android. The competition between the services offers consumers a lot of great solutions and gives the opportunity to succeed based on their merit, “- said Tom Sweeney.

The second reason, much more important, is the fact that Epic Games does not want to pay 30% for all the purchases inside the game.

“This is a high price in the world, where 70% of game developers have to cover the costs of creating, supporting and developing their projects,” the head of Epic Games said.

Recall that the developers of Fortnite have already earned more than a billion on the sale of in-game content. Google Play tax of 30% really seems like a huge number against this background, so it’s no surprise that Epic Games does not want to share money.
