Funcom and Swedish studio Bearded Ladies have announced a new game called Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. This is an adventure tactic with turn-based battles in the style of XCOM, exploring the world and, according to developers, an exciting story. The team Bearded Ladies includes designers Hitman and one of the creators of Payday.
In Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, humanity has destroyed itself in wars for natural resources and territories. The planet is quiet, and in ruined cities, nature reigns. There are no more people, only mutants remain – creatures mutilated beyond recognition. Players will have to leave their shelter and go to the Zone to survive, or maybe even find the legendary ancient shelter of Eden, where, as the legends say, one can find answers to all the questions.
“This is an unusual label for the game, but the tactical adventure does fit into its description,” said Executive Producer Bearded Ladies Ulf Andersson, former Payday designer. “Our goal is to mix a deep and tactical battle in XCOM style with a branching storyline that unfolds when you explore overgrown forests and abandoned cities with your mutant team. The combination of these elements with a secretive gameplay in real time gives you a unique way to avoid fighting situations that you encounter during the game, or catch enemies unaware, “he concluded.
Players will be able to carry out tactical forays into the Zone, and upon return go to the dubious institution “Ark” to replenish provisions and think over a plan for further action. In addition, your mutants are able to evolve: they will learn to dress in a solid as a stone hide, attack the enemies from a take-off or imperceptibly penetrate into the enemy camp.
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is developed on the Unreal Engine and will go on sale on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2018. The game is based on the intellectual property of the classic board games Mutant.
