In China, the long-awaited presentation of the new flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi8 took place. The device received so many changes against the background of last year’s model that the manufacturer had to miss one generation. Together with it, the more affordable Mi8 SE was introduced, which became the first device based on the new mobile platform Snapdragon 710.
Until the announcement, it was not clear how the smartphone would look. As a result, Xiaomi went on a proven track, spying out interesting solutions from competitors in the shop. So, in Mi8 there was a fashionable cut-out in the screen. True, the Chinese manufacturer, unlike other Android-manufacturers, not only copied this chip from Apple, but also used it for its intended purpose – installed in the cutout an advanced 3D-scanning system for quick and safe unlocking. Due to the presence of an infrared sensor, the smartphone recognizes the owner even in total darkness.
Due to the so-called frameless design, the entire front side is occupied by a 6.21-inch display with a 19: 9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels. The screen is made using AMOLED technology, which guarantees wide viewing angles without distortion of colors in the event of a deviation. To the chagrin of many, Xiaomi, like other manufacturers of Android-smartphones, could not get rid of the bottom frame. If desired, in the settings you can hide the cutout with a black bar.
The fingerprint reader for the base model Mi8 is on the back side. There were rumors that the company would incorporate it into the screen and even had corresponding leaks, but in the end, this idea was abandoned – at least in the standard version. The sensor is located in the place where the index finger usually lies during the use of the gadget.
The new flagship Xiaomi has traditionally received top technical specifications. It uses an eight-core Snapdragon 845 processor with an Adreno 630 graphics system. The amount of RAM is 6 GB, depending on the version, and the built-in UFS 2.1 drive is 64 to 256 GB. Contrary to rumors about a 4,000 mAh battery, in Mi8 it has a capacity of only 3,300 mAh. But there is support for fast charging technology Quick Charge 4.0 + 18W. In addition, like the Mi Mix 2S, the device can be charged using Qi wireless stations.
In AnTuTu smartphone gives 301 472 points, which is by far the highest result among all smartphones. In addition, this is the first mobile device, which has collected more than 300 thousand points in this test.
Most of the presentation was given to the photo capabilities of the device. The Mi8 has a dual camera with 12 (f / 1.8) and 12 (f / 2.4) Mp modules. The second sensor is used for shooting with a double optical zoom and capturing depth-of-field information for blurring the background in portrait mode. There is fast phase autofocus and four-axis optical image stabilization. In addition, Xiaomi uses artificial intelligence to analyze the scene and select the optimal shooting settings for each frame. The front camera with a resolution of 20 megapixels and aperture f / 2.0 supports a mode that allows you to change the proportions of the face, eye size, skin condition, etc.
